February 2, 2010 Road Trip!!!

The Brew City Blades took a three game road trip to the mountains of Colorado in mid-January. Over two days (January 15th and 16th) they played three games against some of the local women's teams. The team was mostly made up of C Team players, with a few players from the D and A Teams.

The first game, in Vail, was an exercise in acclimation to the altitude. The team flew in that morning and played their first game at 8,200 feet. It was the first hockey game at altitude for many of the players. Sadly, the game resulted in an 8-2 loss. It was a competitive, hard fought game, no matter the final score.

The second game, played the next day in Aspen resulted in a 2-1 win for the Blades. A close game, the team really clicked and was able to snag the win. The second game of the day, in Glenwood Springs, was a 3-1 heartbreaker of a loss. Even though the Blades outshot their opponents, they were unable to clinch the win and had to settle for a 3-1 loss instead.

The hockey was great, but the team was able to experience a lot of the fun that the Colorado ski resort towns have to offer. Time wandering through the village at Vail, taking a late night dip in the natural hot springs at Glenwood Springs, or going for a morning hike in Carbondale, was all a fun addition to playing some great hockey against some quality women's teams.
